Tracing the origins
The original Payne family homestead was established northeast of Lloydminster, SK in 1903. It has continued on through five generations evolving into what it is today. Bernard and Mona started in the 50's with an Angus based herd, they then began crossing European breeds over his Angus females which led to him finding the Limousin breed excelled over others. Shortly thereafter Bernard made the decision to sell all of their Angus and purchase a group of Limousin females thus establishing what is now known as Greenwood Cattle. The family farm has since reintroduced Angus as well as adding Speckle Park and Simmental to their purebred operations.
After closely watching the Speckle Park breed for numerous years, the Speckle Park division of Greenwood Cattle was established in November of 2017. We were fortunate enough to purchase a group of females including A&W 7Y and A&W 5Z from Wayne & Arlene Gould of A&W Farms Ltd. Since then, we have continued to build upon that base with top end females from multiple breed leading herds. Our goal has been to select elite genetics from a broad gene pool with udder and foot quality being a top priority, along with high fertility and docility. We continue to build with these qualities in focus as we feel the Speckle Park breed has a great deal to offer the cattle industry. We are privileged to say we have sent quality genetics across Canada, USA, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and South Africa We stand behind our growing Speckle Park herd with great pride and passion as we believe in the quality of our genetics! |
